NARROW DOG - Winter 2011/2012 |
|
Terry and Monica Darlington sail the waterways on
their narrowboat Phyllis May 2. Terry
writes books; Monica acts as his manager, and Jim and Jess act as their dogs.
Terry
Darlington Terry
was brought up during the war between an oil terminal and a flying boat base.
He survived and went to Oxford, where he passed unnoticed. In
Stone Staffordshire he founded Research Associates, the research firm, and Stone
Master Marathoners, the running club. Like
many Welshmen, Terry is talkative and confiding, ill at ease with practical
matters, and known to linger in public houses.
He likes boating but knows little about it. Narrow
Dog to Carcassonne
and Narrow Dog to Indian River have sold 200,000 copies.
Narrow Dog to Wigan Pier is appearing in 2012. If
you press the Meet the Author button Terry will speak to you in English. Monica Darlington Monica’s
father was a gardener and her mother a housemaid, or perhaps it was the other
way round. She
was Beauty queen of Brecon and Radnorshire, has a first class degree, has run
thirty marathons, and leaps tall buildings with a single bound. Her
three children have all reproduced themselves, suggesting that she and Terry are
the same species. She
quite likes boating but knows little about it. Jim and Jess Brynula
Great Expectations (Jim) is a fawn whippet sprung from a long line of dogs with
ridiculous names. He can run at
forty miles an hour. He is cowardly,
thieving, and disrespectful and hates boating. Jess
is a brindle and white rescue dog that appears to be a whippet.
She can run faster than Jim. She
is more affectionate than Jim, but just as cowardly and thieving.
She really really hates boating.
